Sérgio Romagnolo

Sérgio Mauro Romagnolo (São Paulo, SP, 1957). Sculptor, painter, draftsman, intermedia artist and teacher. He studied at Colégio Iadê, in São Paulo, from 1976 to 1977. In 1980, he joined the course of fine arts at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (Faap), in São Paulo. He came into contact with the work of Regina Silveira (1939), Nelson Leirner (1932) and Julio Plaza (1938-2003). Between 1980 and 1984, he taught in public and private schools. He taught painting at Faap between 1985 and 1986. That same year, he held his first solo exhibition at Galeria Luisa Strina in São Paulo. In the early 1990s, he began to dedicate himself to sculpture and taught workshops. He took part in the Bienal Internacional de São Paulo in 1977, 1983, 1987, and 1991. In 1999, he finished his master's degree in arts at Universidade de São Paulo (ECA/USP), with the dissertation Sculptures: Wrinkles and Allegories and, in 2002, he finished his doctorate in arts at the same institution, with the thesis The Emptiness and Hollowness in Sculpture. Between 2000 and 2005, he taught at Faculdade Santa Marcelina, São Paulo, and since 2007, at Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" (Unesp).
